The Twyla Jean Way

We build businesses the way nature builds ecosystems: with patience, intention, and an understanding that true success comes from creating value for every participant in the system. Our ventures may span different industries, but they share common DNA—servant leadership, biomimicry principles, and a commitment to sustainable growth that benefits people, communities, and the bottom line.

Because the best businesses, like the best ecosystems, thrive when everything is connected and everyone wins.

An Elegant Philosophy

At Twyla Jean Holdings, we believe the natural world holds the blueprint for sustainable business success. For 3.8 billion years, nature has perfected systems of growth, adaptation, and symbiotic collaboration—principles we apply across every venture in our diverse portfolio.

Like the interconnected root systems of a forest that share resources and strengthen the entire ecosystem, our subsidiaries operate as a living network. Each business venture draws strength from the others while contributing to the collective growth of the whole. From consulting and professional development to outdoor experiences and beyond, we create enterprises that mirror nature's most successful strategies: resilience, adaptation, mutual benefit, and sustainable growth.

Our biomimicry approach isn't just philosophy—it's practical methodology. We observe how ant colonies organize efficiently, how ecosystems self-regulate, and how natural systems thrive through uncertainty. These insights inform how we build businesses, develop leaders, and create value that endures across market cycles.

Every subsidiary under Twyla Jean Holdings operates on servant leadership principles, recognizing that true success comes when each part of the system contributes to the flourishing of the whole. We don't just build businesses; we cultivate ecosystems where people, profits, and purpose align naturally.

“Work becomes great when curiosity [exceeds] obligation.” Jacob Martinez

  • Our Mission

Our mission is to acquire, support, and grow businesses by applying a biomimetic leadership philosophy. We are committed to fostering stable, resilient, and sustainable enterprises that create long-term value for our partners, stakeholders, and the wider community, guided by the wisdom of natural systems.

  • Values Rooted in the Fertile Soil

Longevity: We think in decades, not quarters. Our decisions are rooted in a commitment to sustained existence and enduring value, prioritizing long-term health over short-term gains.

Resilience: Inspired by the tortoise's ability to withstand adversity, we build businesses with robust systems and adaptable strategies that can navigate and thrive through economic cycles and unexpected challenges.

  • Wise Strategy

Our strategy is to build a diversified and resilient portfolio of businesses through a disciplined, long-term approach:

Patient Investment: We will identify and invest in established, profitable businesses with strong fundamentals and potential for sustainable, steady growth. Our focus is on enduring value rather than speculative returns.

Biomimetic Leadership: We will instill our core values of biomimicry, resilience, and longevity into the management philosophies of our portfolio companies, promoting a culture of efficiency, adaptability, and ethical practice.

Strategic Support: We will provide our companies with the necessary capital, guidance, and resources to strengthen their foundations and support their gradual, but persistent, expansion. We act as a stable rock for our companies to step over, not a fleeting wave.

Sustainable Growth: We will prioritize growth models that are regenerative and resource-efficient, minimizing our ecological footprint and contributing positively to our environment and communities, aligning with our tagline "building businesses with nature."

About the Founder

Jacob Martinez founded Twyla Jean Holdings with a vision to create a parent company that operates like a thriving ecosystem—diverse, interconnected, and mutually supportive. Named after his beloved tortoise Twyla Jean Carleton, the company embodies the patient, steady wisdom that comes from observing nature's long-term strategies for success.

As a transformational leader and business consultant, Jacob brings extensive experience in cultivating high-yield businesses while empowering people to drive results. His foundational studies in geography and rhetoric and writing at the University of Texas at Austin shaped his understanding of how landscapes—both physical and communicative—influence systems and relationships. His unique background flows across public and private sectors, from serving as a business process consultant for the City of Austin to nurturing professional development organizations and contributing to nonprofit boards.

Jacob's approach to business building is deeply personal and experiential. Whether he's organizing fly fishing expeditions that teach leadership through patience and observation, exploring remote territories in his converted ambulance travel van, or caring for his diverse family of animals—Rio the dog, Mina the cat, Twyla Jean Carleton the tortoise, and Bailey the horse—he's constantly learning from the natural world and human connections.

His life philosophy mirrors his business philosophy: everything is interconnected. His adventures on the road, his work in public service, his entrepreneurial ventures, and his love for the outdoors all inform his understanding of how systems flow, how relationships strengthen networks, and how sustainable success emerges through authentic connections and natural principles.

Through Jacob's guidance, Twyla Jean Holdings is evolving as a parent company with subsidiaries branching across the industries he's passionate about—each one designed to serve others while contributing to a larger ecosystem of growth, adventure, and meaningful work.
